Courtesy Of The Red, White and Blue by Toby Keith

Courtesy Of The Red, White and Blue by Toby Keith is an example of social relevance. It is an example of social relevance because it talks about America. He also talks about how his dad served in the army and how his family would be safe. He says how the war was a surprise to everyone and they did not expect it."Now this nation that I love is fallin’ under attack. A mighty sucker-punch came flying in from somewhere in the back. Soon as we could see clearly through our big black eye, Man, we lit up your world like the fourth of July." This line from the song says how this country is under attack and nobody expected it. “My daddy served in the army where he lost his right eye, But he flew a flag out in our yard 'til the day that he died. He wanted my mother, my brother, my sister and me. To grow up and live happy in the land of the free.” This line is saying how his father served in the army and he when he died he wanted his family to live in the land of the free without worrying about anything.

Fifteen by Taylor Swift

Fifteen by Taylor Swift is an example of social relevance. It is an example of social relevance because it talks about the troubles in high school from the beginning of freshmen year to the day of graduation. “You take a deep breath and you walk through the doors. It's the morning of your very first day. You say "Hi" to your friends you ain't seen in a while. Try and stay out of everybody's way.” This line says how you fist walk through the high school doors on your first day and you say hi to all of your friends but you are nervous of all the older people so you try to stay out of their way so you don’t make enemies of your first day of high school. Also, it says that when you’re fifteen you do not really know what to believe so you will believe anything and you do not know who you want to be yet. “When you're fifteen and your first kiss. Makes your head spin round but. In your life you'll do things greater than dating the boy of the football team. But I didn't know it at fifteen.” This line says that at fifteen you only think about dating and your first kiss makes your head spin round but you don't think about doing greater things is life.

American Ride by Toby Keith

Two Examples of Joy

American Honey
by Lady Antebellum

She grew up on a side of the road
Where the church bells ring and strong love grows
She grew up good
She grew up slow
Like American honey

Steady as a preacher
Free as a weed
Couldn't wait to get goin'
But wasn't quite ready to leave
So innocent, pure and sweet
American honey

There's a wild, wild whisper
Blowin' in the wind
Callin' out my name like a long lost friend
Oh I miss those days as the years go by
Oh nothing's sweeter than summertime
And American honey

Get caught in the race
Of this crazy life
Tryin' to be everything can make you lose your mind
I just wanna go back in time
To American honey, yea

There's a wild, wild whisper
Blowin' in the wind
Callin' out my name like a long lost friend
Oh I miss those days as the years go by
Oh nothing's sweeter than summertime
And American honey

Gone for so long now
I gotta get back to her somehow
To American honey

Ooh There's a wild, wild whisper
Blowin' in the wind
Callin' out my name like a long lost friend
Oh I miss those days as the years go by
Oh nothin's sweeter than summertime
And American honey
And American honey

Explanation- This song is an example of joy because it is talking about a girl who was happy during the summer and everything was fun and simple and now everything is hard. A line from this song that is an example of this is, "Oh I miss those days as the years go by. Oh nothin's sweeter than summertime." So in other words she says how she misses everything about those days and nothing is better than the summer.

Laughed Until We Cried
by Jason Aldean

Goin’ through my closet the other day
I found an old yearbook
Flipped right to the page of that senior trip
Down there on that Panama strip
We all started yellin’ when we smelled the beach
Couldn't wait to try our fake I.D.’s
We only had a few days
And a whole lot of memories to make

Oh man we were livin’
Didn't waste one minute
We talked and drank and danced and said goodbye
We laughed until we cried

This past year my family
Was sittin’ cross-legged 'round the Christmas tree
Listenin’ to granddad
We all knew it probably be his last
He was crackin’ jokes and we were takin’ turns
Tellin’ stories ‘bout fishin’ or lessons learned
Out on the porch with him
We all felt like kids again

Oh man we were livin
Sittin' there reminiscin'
We sang and talked and traveled back in time
We laughed until we cried

It's like the best days under the sun
Every emotion rolled into one
A little of this a little of that
Kinda happy kinda sad

Just the other night the baby was cryin’
So I got out of bed rocked her awhile
And I held her tight
And I told her it would be all right
And my mind went back to a few years ago
When we tried so long
We almost gave up hope
And I remember you
Comin' in and tellin’ me the news

Oh man we were livin’
Goin’ crazy in the kitchen
We danced and screamed and held each other tight
We laughed until we cried

Explanation- This song is also an example of joy because it talks about his memories on his senior trip, Christmas with his family, and when his daughter was first born and the realtionship between his wife. An example of this is, "I found an old yearbook. Flipped right to the page of that senior trip. We all started yellin’ when we smelled the beach, couldn't wait to try our fake I.D.’s. We only had a few days and a whole lot of memories to make." Another line that is an example of this is, "This past year my family was sittin’ cross-legged 'round the Christmas tree listenin’ to granddad, we all knew it probably be his last." Those two lines are talking about his memories on the senior trip and his last Christmas with his grandfather. A third example is, "The baby was cryin' so I got out of bed rocked her awhile and I held her tight and I told her it would be all right. And my mind went back to a few years ago when we tried so long, we almost gave up hope." This line is saying how he remembers that him and his wife almost gave up hope because she wasn't getting pregnant and then finally she got pregnant so they were joyful.

Two Examples of Friendship

Me And My Gang
By Rascal Flatts

Way on down to southern Alabama
With the guitars jammin
That's where we're headed
Straight up to Butte, Montana singin Lord I was born a ramblin man
California to Oregon
Even New York City got one or two hillbillies ready to hit the road

It's a brother and a sister kinda thang
Raise up your hands if you all wanna hang with
Me and my gang
We live to ride, we ride to live
Me and my gang
Jump on that train
Grab a hold of them reigns
We gonna rock this thang, cock this thang
Me and my gang
Yeah.. me and my gang

We got hippies, gypsies, freaks and geeks
High class women in Daisy Duke denim
Bangin on gongs and singin our songs
Dude named Elrock jammin on an Ipod
Beer and bonfires
Wide open throttle
Coors in a bottle
It's all for one and one for all y'all

It's a brother and a sister kinda thang
Raise up your hands if you all wanna hang
With me and my gang
We live to ride, we ride to live
Me and my gang
Jump on that train
Grab a hold of them reigns
We gonna rock this thang, cock this thang
Me and my gang

na na na na na na na na na
na na na na na..

na na na na na na na na na..

It's a brother and a sister kinda thang
Raise up your hands if you all wanna hang
With me and my gang
We live to ride, we ride to live
Me and my gang
Jump on that train
Grab a hold of them reigns
We gonna rock this thang, cock this thang

na na na na na na na na na
na na na na na na na na na
na na na na

na na na na na na na na na
na na na na na

Me and my gang
Jump on that train
Grab hold of them reigns

Explanation- The song "Me And My Gang" by Rascal Flatts is an example of friendship. It is an example of friendship because throughout the course of the song it is talking about hanging out with friends. The line,"It's a brother and a sister kinda thang" is saying how close him and his friends are.

Find Out Who Your Friends Are
By Tracy Lawrence

Run your car off the side of the road
Get stuck in a ditch way out in the middle of nowhere
Get yourself in a bind lose the shirt off your back
Need a floor need a couch need a bus fare

This is where the rubber meets the road
This is where the cream is gonna rise
This is what you really didn't know
This is where the truth don't lie

{Chorus}
You find out who you're friends are
Somebody's gonna drop everything
Run out and crank up their car
Hit the gas get their fast
Never stop to think 'what's in it for me' or 'it's way too far'
They just show on up with their big old heart
You find out who you're friends are

Everybody wants to slap your back
wants to shake your hand
when you're up on top of that mountain
But let one of those rocks give way then you slide back down look up
and see who's around then

This ain't where the road comes to an end
This ain't where the bandwagon stops
This is just one of those times when
Alot of folks jump off

{Chorus}

When the water's high
When the weather's not so fair
When the well runs dry
Who's gonna be there

{Chorus}

Explanation- The song,"Find Out Who Your Friends Are" by Tracy Lawrence is an example of friendship. The line,"You find out who you're friends are. Somebody's gonna drop everything" is an example of friendship because it means that if you ever need help and you ask friends to come and help you, those who show up are the ones who are most important and more of a friend then those who you asked for help but didn't show up.

Two Examples Of Religion

Concrete Angel
by Martina McBride

she walks to school with a lunch she packed
nobody knows what she's holding back
wearing the same dress she wore yesterday
she hides the bruises with the linen and lace

the teacher wonders but she doesn't ask
it's hard to see the pain behind the mask
bearing the burden of a secret storm
sometimes she wishes she was never born

CHORUS:
through the wind
and the rain
she stands hard as a stone
in a world that she can't rise above
but her dreams
give her wings
and she flies to a place where she's loved
concrete angel

somebody cries in the middle of the night
the neighbors hear but they turn out the light
a fragile soul caught in the hands of fate
when morning comes it'll be too late

REPEAT CHORUS

a statue stands in a shaded place
an angel girl with an upturned face
a name is written on a polished rock
a broken heart that the world forgot

REPEAT CHORUS

Explanation- This song is an example of religion because in the title of this song it has the word 'angels' which is a reference to religion. Within the lyrics there is a line that says, "a freagile soul caught in the hands of fate" and the word soul is also a reference to religion. There are many referneces to religion in this song.

I Saw God Today
by George Strait

I just walked down the street to the coffee shop
had to take a break
I'd been by her side for eighteen hours straight
I saw a flower growing in the middle of the sidewalk
pushing up through the concrete
like it was planted right there for me to see
the flashin' lights, the honkin' horns
all seemed to fade away
in the shadow of that hospital at 5:08
I saw God today

Chorus:
I've been to church
I've read the book
I know He's here, but I don't look
near as often as I should
Yeah, I know I should
His fingerprints are everywhere
I'd just slow down to stop and stare
opened my eyes and man I swear
I saw God today

I saw a couple walking by they were holding hands
Man, she had that glow
yeah I couldn't help but notice she was starting to show
I stood there for a minute takin' in the sky
lost in that sunset
a splash of amber melted in the shades of red

Chorus

I got my face pressed up against the nursery glass
She's sleeping like a rock
My name on her wrist wearing tiny pink socks
She's got my nose, she's got her mama's eyes
My brand new baby girl
She's a miracle
I saw God today

Explanation- This song is an example of religion. This song is an example of religion because it has references toward God. A line that references religion is, " I've been to church, I've read the book." This references religion because it is talking about going to church and reading the Bible.
